Directions from the North (A1M)
Leave the A1M (Southbound) by junction 58 (not junction 59), following the A68 south-west (left) towards Darlington. Travel about 3km past two roundabouts to Cockerton. At the third roundabout opposite a parade of shops, Take the first (left) exit. After about 200 yards, at another roundabout, take the last (right) turn which leads almost immediately to a futher roundabout. Take the first (Left) exit into a tree-lined road, Carmel Road North. Continue down Carmel Road North for 1.5km, past the Crematorium on the right. Cross straight over the large roundabout by a petrol station into Carmel Road South. Immediately after passing the petrol station, the church entrance is obvious on the right. Pass between the two stone gate posts along a tree-lined drive. There are ample parking facilities in the grounds.
Directions from the South (A1M/A66M)
Leave the A1M (Northbound) by junction 57, following the A66(M) to a large roundabout. Take the first exit continuing along the A66 east over the River Tees and uphill to another large roundabout with a large car saleroom on the right. Take the first (left) exit into a tree-lined road, Carmel Road South (A67). Continue along Carmel Road South for 1km. The church entrance is on the
left among trees, a few yards
before the petrol station and the next roundabout. Pass between the two stone gate posts along a tree-lined drive. There are ample parking facilities in the grounds.
Directions from the East (A66)
Continue west along the A66 until its intersection with the A167 at a large roundabout with a large car saleroom straight ahead. Take the third exit into tree-lined road, Carmel Road South (A67). Continue along Carmel Road South for 1km. The church entrance is on the
left among trees, a few yards
before the petrol station and the next roundabout. Pass between the two stone gate posts along a tree-lined drive. There are ample parking facilities in the grounds.
Walking from Bank Top Railway Station (East Coast Main Line)
Elm Ridge Methodist Church is about one and a half miles from the station, mostly uphill. The most direct route by foot is to leave the station by the Victoria Road exit (through the underpass) go down the South (left) side of Victoria Road, past the big roundabout, up Victoria road past Sainsbury's, left past Grange Road Baptist Church at a big roundabout at the top of the hill, then cross the road at the crossing onto Coniscliffe Road (passing Bannatyne's Hotel on your Left). Continue up Coniscliffe Road just over half a mile to the big roundabout. The entrance to Elm Ridge is across the road to your left, between two substantial stone gateposts, along a tree-lined drive.
Alternatively, there will be taxis at the station.
